Bacteriostatic Water

Bacteriostatic Water is designed to stop the growth of bacteria. It is made from sterile and filtered water. Once all bacteria are removed from the water, it’s mixed with 0.9% benzyl alcohol to prevent contaminated bacteria from growing inside the water. This makes the water static. 

Bacteriostatic Water is primarily used for diluting and dissolving medications when they are to be injected into patients. It’s not the same as sterile water. 

There are 3 ways to inject Bacteriostatic Water:

• Intravenous injection (by accessing a vein via needle)

• Intramuscular injection (by accessing a muscle through a needle)

• Subcutaneous injection (under the skin)

Bacteriostatic Water does not contain an anti-bacterial agent like injections or fluids. Hence, it does not kill bacteria, it only prevents bacteria from growing in water. This water can be sued for diluting injections when taking steroids without any interaction with bacteria-destroying additives.
